I decided to discover different coffee shops around my area. I found one that I really liked and fell in love with the name. As you walk on the sidewalk of downtown Waconia, MN, you will see a building that almost looks like it could be a house.
It had a dark Irish green paint and a cream color that covered the shutters, porch, and gutters. The colors made this place stand out. There was a bench outside and carved in writing were the words "Mocha Monkey". I smiled to myself and said to my friend who tagged along, " I really like the name. It's so cute!" We walked in, I could hear the door squeak like old floorboards mixed with a high pitch mouse squeak. When you look throughout the room, it's very busy to the eye. Lots of things to look at. They had red, brown and green color tones and a wall with a chalkboard filled with things to eat and drink. The place also felt like a home. They had a warm fireplace with couches you'd find in a house, not in a café, and a staircase leading to an upstairs with tables and couches once again. The windows were like a small country style. I loved every second of it. Made me feel cozy and warm. We both ordered hot chocolate and let me tell you... it was the best hot chocolate out of any other café. The taste was addicting. They put in not a lot of chocolate but enough that it's not a milky taste. It was just right.
While we ordered, I noticed they had very classy and creative names on their menu. Especially for their drinks, they had "Italian soda, coffee smoothie, Polar Bear Plunge smoothie, Nutty Monkey Mocha, Monkey Tail Mocha..." I thought these names were clever and it made me want to try it just because of the name. The ice cream they had displayed looked puffy and soft, for some reason, it reminded me of one of those puffy comforters you put on beds. The place does get pretty packed. It's mostly filled with teenagers with backpacks on their backs and a Mocha Monkey beverage in their hands.
As my friend and I sip on our chocolatey drink, I take in the artsy atmosphere and the busyness of it all and tell my friend "We have to come here more often." she replied, "Yes, I love it!" I will be returning to the place that has the all-time best hot chocolate in town and a great atmosphere.
